The site serves as a living laboratory for students to implement their sustainable design solutions and projects. Located on Parkview Avenue adjacent to Western Michigan University's College of Engineering and the expansive Asylum Lake Preserve, the site features a developing landscape full of resources and projects. Jobs on the site enable students to conduct research and implement projects throughout the year. Past student projects have included black soldier fly larvae, post consumer food waste research and a compost hot water heater to heat the hoop houses. Current student projects include vermicomposting demonstration, aerated composting, pollinator way-stations and more. VOLUNTEERING AT GIBBS We host a variety of opportunities at the Gibbs House for volunteers, students and community members. Volunteers can expect to learn about food forestry, vegetable gardening, or composting!  Summer Hours * Pre-Registration Required  Volunteer at the Gibbs House Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting Friday, May 10 2024.  The volunteer hours are open so you can arrive and leave at any point or stay the entire time.  Typically summer and fall are the busiest times for gardening. Students can also get WMU Signature credit for volunteering! *Due to parking and our current capacity, there is a daily cap of 20 volunteers per session. If you need to request another time to volunteer during the week, please email us at wmu-sustainability@wmich.edu.  May 2024                                                                             JUne 2024May 10                                                                                                                JUNE 7May 17                                                                                                                JUNE 14May 24                                                                                                               JUNE 21May 31                                                                                                               JUNE 28July 2024                                                                           August 2024July 12                                                                                                           AUGUST 2July 19                                                                                                           AUGUST 9 July 26                                                                                                           AUGUST 16    HomeAbout Diversity and Inclusion Events Initiatives Projects and Programs Archive Art Wall Bicycle Resource Hub Climate Action Plan Implementation EcoEssentials Gibbs HouseSustainability Research and Demonstration History Student Sustainability Survey WeSustain Internship The Living Woodshop Reports and Publications Resources Student Sustainability Grant Work With Us Directory Contact Us Facebook YouTube Instagram Office for SustainabilityWestern Michigan UniversityKalamazoo MI 49008-5286 USA(269) 387-0943 Campus Assessment and Rating Campus Sustainability Features Map Make a gift Audiences Alumni and Donors Businesses Veterans Locations Kalamazoo Regional Locations Online Education Stryker School of Medicine Services Accessibility Campus Safety Information and Resources Human Resources Maps Parking Western Michigan UniversityKalamazoo MI 49008-5200 USA(269) 387-1000Contact WMUWMU Notice of Non-DiscriminationLand Acknowledgment Statement© 2024 All rights reserved.
